This is Mateo Clinton Canelos – my cute ass fur baby. Pure breed Havanese. He was born on August 18th, 2014. I got him on October 23rd, 2014. No words can describe my love for him. If you have a pet, then you definitely know the type of love we have towards our pets… it’s the best type of love from someone who is not a human. The best.
Long story short: my dad grew up with dogs, my mom didn’t. Naturally, she always said no to getting a dog (again). We had a white, fluffy mut, named Moshis, when I was around 5 or 6 years old. He passed away *sad face,* so ever since, my mom deterred from getting another one. Her reasoning was that she would be the one to end up taking care of it… mildly true.
I got Mateo because:
1) I had a big girl job, so I had the means to financially become responsible for something/someone besides myself
2) My mom went to Ecuador for two months, so that was that
3) It was now or neverrrrr!!!!!!!!!!! Jk, but seriously, it was time for me to get a beloved, cute, fluffy dog
Hell broke lose when my mom came back from her trip to find out I got a dog behind her back. I won’t lie, her reaction was absurd. But hey, all is good in the hood because now she loves Mateo more than me. FO REAL. My dad… well, he fell in love with Mateo since day one. As a matter of fact, my dad picked the name “Mateo.” It was between Mateo, Lucas, or Clinton. We liked Clinton so much, we made that his middle name. In Spanish, the meaning of the name Mateo is: God’s gift… so now you know.
Mateo has brought so much joy, happiness, and laughter into our lives. At the same rate, he has also brought us a different type of worry – always thinking of him when he’s home alone, whether he is eating his food or not, how come he stopped liking going on walks for two weeks, etc. Nonetheless, he is part of our family, and I make sure EVERYONE and their mother knows about my sweet Mateo.
So, there you have it ladies and gents. Mateo and I are a package deal now.
